Official Policy from the Dean's Office on the use of Canvas and related Learning Technologies

After careful discussion and consideration, the Deans have decided that all faculty members must use the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) for all courses. No other LMS may be used.

To ensure consistency and accessibility for all students in all courses, the syllabus, announcements and all grade information at a minimum must be posted on Canvas. It is preferable that as many course assignments as possible are hosted on Canvas.

Rationale: Students expect to obtain all of their course information via Canvas. Canvas is supported by Enterprise Technology and is thus a secure environment in which data and information security are closely monitored. Student work and activity must be accessible via Canvas in the event of code of conduct and academic integrity investigations.

Additionally, any third-party learning technologies students use in Canvas must first be approved by unit leadership, The College Dean’s Office, ASU’s Information Security Office, and the LMS team in accordance with The College Dean's Office Process for Tool Adoption
